Mosterd’s Bay section of Strand Beach temporarily closed from mid- December

The City of Cape Town would like to inform residents that the section of Strand beach known as Mosterd’s Bay will be closed from 15 December 2025 to 15 January 2026 as a precautionary measure in the interest of visitors’ safety and security.
The City is currently busy with the construction of the second phase of the Strand seawall project. In the interest of public safety and security, the City has decided to temporarily close the section between the Strand swimming pool and Norman Road.
The nearest swimming beach is in the vicinity of the Strand Surf Lifesaving Club, between their red and yellow flags, when lifeguards are on duty. For a full list of lifeguarded beaches, please visit https://bit.ly/CT-Beaches-Lifeguard-Schedule .
The nearest fishing and dog walking beach is east of Norman Road in the vicinity of Greenways.
‘Neighbourhood watches and security will be on site to guide visitors to the nearest available beach to the east of Norman Road or west of Strand Pavillion throughout the upcoming holiday period. We ask locals and visitors to please adhere to this closure as this is for your own safety and security. I also want to thank the public for their ongoing support and understanding as we are working on this seawall that is intended to protect this pristine beach for generations to come,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews
‘The City would like to remind the public of four golden rules when in and around water. Only swim where and when lifeguards are on duty, between their red and yellow flags designating the safest bathing areas; beware of rip currents; please don’t swim under the influence of alcohol and always actively monitor children in and around the water,’ said Councillor Chantal Cerfontein, Subcouncil 8 Chairperson and Ward Councillor.
The public is asked to please always pay attention to any public advisory signage that may be placed on beaches for informative purposes.
